4Knots Music Festival

Home > Things to do in New York > Music
Event: 16/07/2011

South Street Seaport will sound off this summer.

The Village Voice has relocated — and renamed — its popular Siren Music Festival, which ran for more than 10 years in Coney Island, to the Manhattan tourist destination.

Now called 4Knots Music Festival, the free, all-day, all-ages concert on July 16 will be headlined by The Black Angels. Also joining the lineup are Titus Andronicus, Obits, Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces, Davila 666, Oberhofer, and Mr. Dream.

Manning some DJ sets at an indoor lounge will be Yeasayer, Dan Deacon, Finger on the Pulse, PUNCHES, and Brahms. That one's for 21 and over only.

This being a festival in the 21st century, you can stay up-to-date on any announcements via Twitter and Facebook.

Now about that curious name: According to the organizers, the East River, which you'll have a nice view of all day during the shows, runs at a speed of 4 knots. In its hey day, the lower portion of the East River was one of the busiest and most important channels in the world. Today, it's known for its chain restaurants, retailers, and now, indie concerts.
