For those who thought that the closest they could possibly get to Bourbon Street in New York City was one of the jazz clubs or restaurants, think again. The 52nd Association Jazz Festival turns 52nd Street, from Lexington Avenue to 7th Avenue, into Bourbon Street for one day each year.
This year the
52nd Street Association Jazz Festival will be held on July 24. The festival will feature vendors and exhibitors displaying or selling food and merchandise, all with a distinctive New Orleans flair and atmosphere about it.
The displays and booths line the sides of the festival route, so you actually feel as though you are walking down Bourbon Street, enjoying the sights and sounds that assail you from both sides of the thoroughfare. In one place, you can enjoy a taste of New Orleans while listening to a jazz band performing on one of the "pocket stages." Just a few steps away, you can watch a street performer, just like you would on Bourbon Street.
Admission is free, but you'll want to bring some money to buy food and souvenirs. After all, you are "on Bourbon Street" for one day, and you want to remember your visit.
