The current buzz in
Mike/Doug Starn/20X200
the contemporary art world is about making work by emerging artists both available and affordable to a greater number of people. Some platforms have been very successful in offering such work to the masses, such as Jen Bekman's 20X200, a clever site that enables art lovers to purchase prints of new works from limited editions of 200, which are then sold for $20 each. Bekman also represents many of the artists she sells at her eponymous Lower East Side gallery.

In a similar vein comes Artspace, another curated online gallery that members can join for free, enabling them access to any number of contemporary works by established and up-and-coming artists—many at affordable prices.

Learn more about buying and selling art at New York City's annual Affordable Art Fair opening at the 7W showroom in midtown this spring, first with a private party on May 4 followed by free admission May 5.

Now in its third year, the fair has expanded to include lectures and workshops sponsored by respected heavyweights like Aperture. Meet exhibitors and artists from all over the world, network with dealers and promote your work. Listed below are a few highlights.

This really is an incredible thing to have in NYC. There's cheap art all over, but some of it leaves something to be desired. The art fair is definitely one of the best places to find what you want -- high quality items that are low cost and that you actually feel a connection to and you want to hang in your place.
