They have the potential to be the shows of the century - the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics - and you can be part of it.
The sporting extravaganza is taking place in less than a year, and
the organisers have just started their search for enthusiastic performers who want to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The artistic directors, one who happens to be Oscar-winning British movie director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 127 Hours), are looking for 10,000 volunteers to help with the ceremonies, which take place inside what will be a jam-packed stadium (in Stratford), in front of a global television audience expected to exceed a billion people.
To have a chance of joining the event, you need to be 18 or over on 1st March, 2012. There will be an opportunity for under-18s to take part too, but the enrolment process for this age group will be announced at a later date.
As for those 18 and over, the organisers are on the hunt for dancers, actors, percussionists and general all-round performers.
The great news is that previous experience is not required. Everyone has a chance. What you should have is enthusiasm (lots of it), energy (lots of it) and a very positive attitude.
You'll need to make sure you're available for all auditions and rehearsals, which take place in east London. The auditions will be taking place in November and December this year, while the rehearsals will be happening in March next year, together with a number of all-day rehearsals during the three weeks prior to each ceremony.
If you're interested, you need to fill in
the online casting application form before Wednesday 31st August, 2011. If more than 15,000 people apply, the organisers will conduct a computerised draw to get the numbers down.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a one-off experience that you'll never forget. So get your skates on and
apply now.
