Most people have heard of America's Independence Day (4th of July), but that's the United States part of America, not the Canada part of America. How about Canada's big day? Do you know when that is? Well it'll be good to know when it is, because then you'll be able to join in with the
celebrations down at Trafalgar Square.
Canada Day is on the 1st of July each year, and celebrates the date in 1867 when the Canadian federal government was created. It's basically a chance for Canadians to celebrate being Canadian, and also a chance for non-Canadians to celebrate with Canadians who are celebrating being Canadian, if you see what I mean.
This will be the sixth year that UK-based Canadians have put on a party in the capital, showing off the best of Canada to people from all around the world. Last year London was the proud host of some 50,000 partygoers, which meant that it was the biggest Canada Day event outside of Canada. How about that?
The whole of Trafalgar Square will be given over to the event – expect to see sports events (including a
street hockey tournament),
celebrity guests,
live music,
stage shows, and
Canadian cuisine (it's not all maple syrup, y'know) together with some cooking demonstrations. You'll even get a chance to have your picture taken with some Canadian Mounties!
And if you're at all interested in visiting this beautiful country, or just want to learn more about the place, be sure to visit the
Experience Canada Pavilion. It'll be your one-stop shop for all the information you'll ever need about Canada.
The fun kicks off at 10.30 in the morning and rocks right the way through to 10pm.
