The16th annual Canberra Short Film Festival will screen at Dendy Cinemas over three nights during Canberra's Floriade (Australia's celebration of spring).

The festival is the place where the creativity, originality and diversity of Australian short filmmaking is up for show, and each year it attracts filmmaking enthusiasts from around the country.

Festival alumni careers have gone on to bloom - Miracle Fish directed by Luke Doolan was in the official selection two years ago and won several international awards and an Academy Award nomination.

Festival director, Anna Koprowska, said of the almost 200 entries, they are nothing short of outstanding.

The event is already set to entertain and inspire both audience members and filmmakers alike, the look at animation extraordinaire Yoram Gross on the final day of the festival will only hope to push these expectations further."

Yoram Gross, the creator of mischievous cartoon koala Blinky Bill will discuss the stories behind his animated career in a Q&A with fellow judge and film writer Andrew L. Urban on the closing Sunday night.

The Q&A Workshop with Mr Gross and Andrew Urban will start an hour before the screening of the top three films from each category - national schools, grass – roots, emerging and practising.

The animator's colourful series: Professor Filutek - Dentist and Zoo will be shown at the event's finale. The two-minute shorts are based on the cartoon strips by Zbigniew Lengren featuring the lovable old professor and his dog who say nothing, but speak the universal language of comedy.

The man who brought quintessential Australian characters to the screen, such as Dot and the Kangaroo is proud to be part of the festival that uniquely supports the local film industry. Each submission must be an Australian film only.

Australia's pioneer of live-action animation has created over a dozen feature films and internationally-screened children's television series including The Little Convict, Joseph the Dreamer, Old Tom and Sarah and the Seventh Match which starred Mia Farrow.

The Canberra Short Film Festival started in 1996 to screen Australian short films as an enjoyable addition to the Canberra International Film Festival. The overwhelming popularity of the festival inspired organisers to hold the first solo Canberra Short Film Festival in 1999.
