Whether young, old or somewhere in between, most people love the sound of the legendary
Carlos Santana. Well, you can groove to him, his legendary guitar, and some of the most talented support musicians in the world live on Wednesday March 16th at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. I can't wait!
The older folks (not that old!) will remember his
early music of the late 60s and early 70s - a rock, salsa and jazz fusion that sky-rocketed him to fame. From his early days at Woodstock and his first Soul Sacrifice album, think (actually listen to and watch)
Black Magic Woman and
Oye Como Va.
After many successful decades and album after album, he went quiet for a while. Much to my delight, he came to the fore again in the late 1990s with a new sound, new vigour and collaborations with some incredible names, like Rob Thomas (pictured below) in
Smooth from the Supernatural album.
Can you feel the music? I can. I must confess he moves me like no other. He remains my all-time favourite artist for his ability to touch the heart and soul - whether it be with something that tugs at the heartstrings like
Europa (Earth's Cry; Heaven's Smile), or something that makes me dance around the room like
Dance Sister Dance.
He's also an all-round great guy into sharing love and peace. I mean, really, is there a better cause? Just listen closely to some of his lyrics and you'll see what I mean. Carols Santana also heads up and supports many
charitable organisations and has donated millions to worthwhile causes over the years.
Get in early before
tickets sell out. If you're a big fan like me but have left it a bit late to get the best seats, there were some great seats on
ebay at the time of writing. They're pricey, but hey, this is an opportunity of a lifetime.
If you do go along, please look for me and say hi. I'll be in the Floor Section (yes, Floor Section!), Row B (Yes B!), Seat 17 (smack bang in the middle). 'Seat', however, will not be required!
