This has got to be the most fun example of charity I've seen in awhile – help the blind by shaking your booty at a Bondi dance party.
Dance-A-Thon is a twelve hour dance marathon (sounds like a normal weekend to me!) that runs from 10.00am until 10.00pm and is open to people aged fourteen and older. Each dancer is required to raise at least $50.00 for charity, with all the proceeds going to the
Fred Hollows Foundation. Participants can raise money by asking friends, family and co-workers to pay them a small amount for each hour they continue dancing.
This event will take place at the
Bondi Pavillion on Sunday 12 June. Each dancer will be given a ten minute break per hour, during which they can access the food and drink stations. Contestants are not allowed to receive anything from outsiders or other contestants, but will be provided with free water and sandwiches throughout the day.
As well as raising money for charity, participants have the opportunity to win a little extra for themselves. Cash will be awarded to those still on the dance floor at the end of the night, plus there will be prizes for the most money raised and the best costume.
If you are interested in participant, visit the Dance-A-Thon website to fill out an
online registration form. While you're there, be sure to check out the
rules and regulations, as well as the helpful
check list.
This is a drug and alcohol free event and dancers are not allowed to consume energy or stamina drinks.
Happy dancing!
