The EcoVelocity Festival

Event: 08/09/2011 - 11/09/2011
EcoVelocity is a brand new motor festival, and one with a twist - for this one is all about green, low emission, environmentally-friendly vehicles.

Organisers of the show are gearing up to spread the word about modern automobiles utilising green technology - but ultimately their goal is, of course, to make sure you have a fun day out.

Taking place outdoors, at Battersea Power Station, the EcoVelocity motor show is something the whole family will be able to enjoy.

Highlights of the four-day car and bike extravaganza include the chance to test drive the most up-to-date eco-friendly cars and motorbikes, and the opportunity to view futuristic, green motors at close quarters - like the the stunning Bluebird Electric, Europe's fastest electric vehicle.

In the next couple of years, owners of the Bluebird Electric are hoping to push this supercar to 500mph plus, a speed which would create a new land speed record. It's amazing what you can do with a few batteries, isn't it?

Whereas the Bluebird Electric should one day be zooming along at 500mph (though not on the M4), the more modest-looking Little (pictured below) will be taking things at a more leisurely pace.

Come and check out this EU-approved electric car at EcoVelocity - the Little can do 60 miles on an eight-hour charge and is built by hand to customer requirements (although if one of your requirements is that it should match the speed of the Bluebird Electric, the makers may look at you like you're one litre short of a full tank).

Volkswagen will also be in attendance at the festival - encouraging drivers to think not green, but blue. The car company's BlueMotion Technologies represent the most energy-efficient, greenest (or bluest?) cars in its range. You'll even have a chance to test drive a couple of them - the Touareg Hybrid and Scirocco BlueMotion cars.

Don't have a driving licence? No worries, you'll still be able to engage with BlueMotion Technologies - the clever folks on the VW stand at the show will be incorporating an interactive touchscreen experience, as well as a 'rollercoaster', which'll demonstrate the company's innovative BlueMotion ideas for reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Besides all this, there'll also be daily eco-friendly car parades, SEAT Young Driver driving lessons, and the My First Honda Licence riding experience (for children).

If you've never seriously considered the benefits of going green, this event will open your eyes.

Green vehicles offer many advantages for you and the environment - you'll spend less on car tax, less on the congestion charge (some cars even pay nothing), and be able to park for free in some places where less eco-friendly cars have to pay.

Above all, the environment won't suffer with all the nasty fumes spewed out by older, dirtier cars.
