Three weeks isn't nearly long enough for Sydneysiders to enjoy this speakeasy style bar. Touted as the official hub of the Sydney Fringe Festival, Eliza Five brings something sassy and saucy to the back streets of Newtown, but it won't be here long.
And while Sydney is in desperate need of more red draped bars that serve up whiskey, absinthe and blues bands, it just makes it all the more special to know that Eliza Five is only temporary.
Tucked away in the back streets of Newtown, soft red light spilling out onto the street (no, not that kind of red light) marks the entry to this pop up bar, temporarily housed in a beautiful century old ballroom at the old Newtown School of Arts.
Once inside punters enter the ye-olde world of sly grog, grand furnishings and roots music. Every Tuesday & Wednesday at 8pm there is Speakeasy Jazz from the New Orleans Four plus a few surprises from around the Fringe Festival, and from Thursday - Saturday at 8pm there is Five Live, presented by Eastside Radio.
This unique bar offers something sadly lacking in Newtown these days - live music. So get down there while you can and lounge on vintage chairs and sip on cocktails and boutique beer.
Free entry.
