According to
Mary Shelley, making a monster is as easy as raiding graves for body parts, sewing them together and waiting for a lightning storm. In reality, it's a lot more difficult.
How to Make a Monster is an
Ipswich Art Gallery (
d'arcy Doyle Place, Nicholas Street) exhibit that explores animatronics, puppetry, electronics and all the other processes that go into creating a monster for the
silver screen. The exhibit focuses on the works of
John Cox, who won an Academy Award for the movie
Babe. Mr Cox gives visitors a behind the scenes glimpse at how his company designs and then creates movie creatures.
Guests can explore the creepy crawly stars of movies like
Pitch Black,
Crocodile Dundee and
Inspector Gadget. An interactive experience gives you the chance to get behind the wheel, so to speak, and see what it's like to be control these animals as a animatronic puppeteer.
How to Make a Monster opened on 26 February and will show until 29 May. The Ipswich Art Gallery is open seven days a week, excluding Good Friday, and admission is free.
