I was very sceptical when my mother told me to come along to the last '
I Can Do It' event, mainly because the Self Help sections of bookshops were never my thing. I felt pretty grounded and I was happily in denial about any "help" or "guidance" I may need. Reluctantly I went along anyway and quite simply, that seminar changed my life.
Now, I know that is a profound thing to say, but there is no non-cheesy way to say it, because it shook something within me that made me believe in myself and what I am capable of. It made me realise, my true happiness in my own hands, no one else's. Sometimes we need that push, that little sense of encouragement to stop the plaguing boredom of routine, and do something you feel you are destined to do in order to be happy. I feel its all to easy to make excuses as to why we shouldn't do things.
It's known as a retreat because it is a time where you focus on your mind and soul. It takes place over a weekend, in Sydney's case on the 30th and 31st of July, 2011, however you can choose to attend for one day or two. I personally find this an expensive event, as the early bird
tickets (available till 30/06/11) are $195 for one day, but after attending the last one, I would definitely be willing to spend that again.
At this year's event you can expect to see
Louise Hay, the bestselling author who hosts the event,
Deepak Chopra, who will be address worldly issues and talk about reaching higher levels of consciousness,
Dr Robert Holden, who will discuss happiness and how to experience more of it and
Marianne Williamson, who will talk about the correlation between spirituality and weight loss.
Like any event with various speakers, I don't agree with everything that is said in its entirety but that is because my beliefs are often concreted, but I found majority of what was talked about to be eye opening, not to mention mind opening and highly inspirational.
