The Jungle Book, a set of tales about a young boy raised by wolves in the jungle, was published in 1894. Now, more than one hundred years later, readers can find out what happened to
Mowgli,
Baloo,
Bagheera and
Shere Kahn in this children's stage show.
Jungle Book: The Next Chapter is a musical comedy written by
Glenn Elston, whose previous works include adaptations of
Wind in the Willows and
Alice in Wonderland. In this show, Mowgli the 'man-cub' meets up with his animal friends several years after Mowgli has left the jungle. They discuss previous adventures and Baloo announces that he wants to stay in the city and become a bear star.
The show enjoyed a successful season at the
2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and maintains the Edinburgh cast. It uses original songs and interactive surprises to tell the story and is appropriate for children of all ages.
Jungle Book: The Next Chapter shows at the Athenaeum Theatre (
188 Collins Street, Melbourne) from 9 – 23 April, excluding Sundays and Good Friday. Tickets are $20.00 for a single or $65.00 for a family of four and can be purchased from
