It's that hump time of winter when it feels like it's been winter forever and you're never going to see the sun EVER again. A recipe for feeling blue. But Kew has a herbal remedy for you, their annual Tropical Extravaganza.

This unseasonal celebration of things colourful and hot is focused in their greenhouses, where their orchids are all basking in the warmth, arranged so as to give you greatest cause to smile. And wish you lived somewhere tropical.

There are several indoor displays in their several greenhouses, but this years main display is of a flooded rainforest, with a huge orchid-covered tree emerging from the waters.

As well as admiring the displays and escaping the cold and grey, you can also join a tour or learn something about orchid and tropical plant care in one of the events that run during the extravaganza.
