This Sunday, why not head toward the Gold Coast for a massive day, featuring a variety of attractions in one park? It's not the Big Day Out – it's the Pig Day Out, an event for owners and lovers of guinea pigs.
The Cavy Rescue Network presents a family friendly day of 'fun in the park with your guinea pigs'. This event will provide food, stalls, fun activities and more and will host a variety of businesses and shelters.
Visitors can meet the faces behind guinea pig rescue shelters like
Cavy Angels,
Saphire City Cavy Rescue and Bayside Guinea Pig Rescue; purchase handmade goods from retailers such as
City Farmers,
Portrait of a Pal and the
RSCPA Cruelty Free Shop; enjoy face painting and craft thanks to
Poppies Parties or get your photo taken by photographer Bianca Newling. The Merlo van will provide coffee while the Lions Club will cook a sausage sizzle lunch.
The Pig Day Out will take place on Sunday 12 June between 9.00am and 1.00pm at
Logan River Parklands (Blackbird Street, Beenleigh). Domestic pets are welcome but organisers ask that owners provide their own pens and shelter and leave sick guinea pigs at home.
The Cavy Rescue Network comprises a national group of volunteers who are involved in the rescue and welfare of guinea pigs. New members must be recommended by current members so if you would like to join, you can introduce yourself via their
forum. Alternately, you may volunteer your help by
contacting The Network.
