The Pride London Festival is the biggest event in UK celebrating the love of lesbian and gay community. The two-week festival offers a programme of music, theatre, dance, comedy, visual arts, sport, debate, film, fashion, participation and literature events.
This year the festival will be be part of
T-Mobile's Big Dance,
Paul L Martin's Cabaret at Battersea Barge and the final DVD launch of
The L Word. Pride London will support UK premieres, new writing and a 48 hour film festival. They are even hosting their own variety gala at Leicester Square Theatre, and there are a stack of prizes and freebies around, but you'll have to go an event to find out more. All these events will happen from the 17th of June till the 3rd of July.
Another big event happening at this festival is the London Gay Parade on the 2nd of July. The Parade will set off from Baker Street at 1pm and proceed down Oxford Street and Regent Street taking in some of the major sites of London as swinging round through Piccadilly to Trafalgar Square. In Trafalgar Square you'll find an eclectic mix of speakers, stalls and a great line up of main stage performers from 3 pm. Alternatively, head into Soho where you'll find the streets closed to traffic and a street party in full swing. With stages and bars dotted around, you'll find plenty of entertainment or a place to chill with mates or space to make new friends. There truly is a place for everyone at this fabulous free event.
If you want to be involved, you can register to
volunteer or participate with your own group/pub/club/business with a float or you can even join other parade walking groups.
This event was made to promote understanding and cooperation, as well as education and diversity, in order to get rid of the discrimination faced by LGBT people. If you support this, then come along to an amazing festival full of exciting things.
