If you're one for adventure and adrenalin pumping activities, this film festival is sure to get your heart racing, and blood pumping. Possibly one of the only things that will do that to a person sitting down.
The Radical Reels Film Festival is set to tour the country from October. If you aren't familiar with the festival, then here's a little background.
Each year, the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival is held in Canada. As part of the festival, they hold the Radical Reels night, which is a competition in which they show many high adrenaline films that have been entered.
As the comp has a pretty big following, even here in Australia, they have decided this year to tour outside Canada and the USA, and hit Australia with this dynamic evening.
The heart racing films you are sure to catch at the festival include a bit of BASE jumping, skiing, biking, and kayaking.
So basically any outdoor activity that can be performed at an extreme level.
Like the 13 minute film 'Tuzgle' from France. This short film follows a group of climbers as they discover what lies beneath Tuzgle, an Argentinian volcano. Swiss climber Nina Caprez and others free climb, that's without harnessing, and explore an area which is basically unexplored.
Light The Wick' is a 25 minute film from the USA, showcasing some pretty rad skiier's doing uncomprehendable things on, and off giant mountain's. A sport in which I have never previously tackled, I can only imagine just skiing in a straight line would be difficult. I have endless respect for people who can do this. The trailer features some amazing snowy mountain views, you really just have to see this for the beauty.
Follow Me' is a 21 minute Canadian film focusing on the adventure of Mountain Biking. I bet you never thought our two wheeled friend could tackle such extreme heights and terrain. From the look of the trailer, it really is quite amazing the risks some people take on a bike.
Fly or Die' is a 24 minute from for the US of A. A mix of free climbing and BASE jumping, created by cutting edge climber Dean Potter. This film is all about pushing the boundaries of these two extreme activities to create an even more out of this world, not to mention crazyily extreme activity.
I tell you, if any of my friends and family were this adventurous, I would probably give them a good talking to. Intense to watch though, naturally. Sure to make for a suspensful, nail biting short film.
The short 6 minute film featuring downhill longboarding, is 'Second Nature'. More often than not, I hyperventilate when I drive in my car down a bit of a slope, or have to ride my bike down the driveway curb. So just imagine the the craziness of skating on a longboard down the roads of the High Sierras in California, which is what these guys do. Check out the teaser trailer below.
Now, 'The Ultimate Ride: Steve Fisher' is not an unseen ad for Solo. This 19 minute film features some pretty serious Whitewater Kayaking in Africa's Zambezi River. As if the scenery in Africa isn't amazing enough, just wait until you see what they do in the wild water's.
And if those flicks aren't enough, there will also be two mystery films announced, and shown on the evening.
