Diana's wedding dress – the one with the big puffed sleeves and the acres of creamy fabric – has been on the road for the last seven years, being toured around for charity. And this latest royal wedding dress, worn by Kate, the now Duchess of Cambridge, has lost little time on a hanger in the cupboard, it's already reported to have helped raise £8 million for charity while it's been on display as part of the summer public opening of
Buckingham Palace this year.
It's being
exhibited in pride of place in the Ballroom, and has been a draw for folks who've been to the palace before but are keen to have a closer look at this creation in white by Sarah Burton for the now late Alexander McQueen. Apparently it has slightly padded hips and a bustle effect – how Victorian. Alongside the dress you can see the Cartier tiara lent to Kate by the Queen for her big day, and the earrings her parents had commissioned for her. There's also a replica bouquet to complete the picture, and a video showing Ms Burton speaking about the creation of the dress – this is the only bit you'll not have seen before, though you won't have seen any of it in this much detail.
