With a name like
Tapas Fantasticas, you already know it's going to be good. Taking place in Potters Fields Park, in the shadow of Tower Bridge, this award-winning two-day festival is a convivial celebration of Spanish culture, food and wine.
Last year, an astonishing 20,000 people attended the event, and just as many are expected to go along this year too. Fine wines – red, white and rosé – will be waiting for you, having been brought all the way from some very famous
Rioja vineyards.
Spanish restaurants from around the capital will be setting up stalls at Tapas Fantasticas, offering some of their tastiest creations - and the best thing about tapas? Dishes are small, so you can try a huge variety of food before you begin to feel even the tiniest bit full.
With Spanish music performances, demonstrations on how to prepare a selection of amazing Spanish dishes, and wine tasting workshops, it'll be just like being in the country itself (you'll have to find a way to block out the view of Tower Bridge though).
If you decide to buy a wine glass when you arrive at Tapas Fantasticas, you'll be given four tokens which you can then exchange for Rioja wine from the stalls at the event, poured directly into your newly purchased glass.
New at this year's event, and something that's sure to appeal to many wine fans, will be a number of wine walks you can enjoy.
Wine experts Olly Smith and Susy Atkins (they'll also be conducting the informal wine tasting workshops) will be leading the 30-minute walks, limited to ten people per walk. Dropping in at a number of stalls at Tapas Fantasticas, your guide will talk you through the various wines on offer and, of course, there'll be a tasting at each one as well.
Though Tapas Fantasticas itself is a free event, the walks cost £5 – but don't forget, for that price you get to try wine from five different winery stalls.
Maravillosa! You'll need to
book as soon as you can though - something tells me that these workshops and walks are going to be popular.
Tapas Fantasticas is a family event – the organisers will be putting on entertainment and activities for children, and no doubt they'll love the Spanish food too.
