One of Melbourne's premier food and wine events,
Taste of Melbourne, has shifted seasons. After several years as a winter event, the veritable banquet of delectable food and wine
experiences now embraces sensational spring at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton from the 15th to the 18th of September.
Gastronomic offerings by some of Melbourne's leading
restaurants and
producers make this food and wine show one of the most highly-anticipated events on the foodie calendar each year.
I absolutely love it. It's a kind of 'died and went to heaven experience' for me and many others. How could it be anything else with some of our best chefs from many of our hatted restaurants cooking up their signature dishes for us to try? (Arrive hungry and pace yourself). It means being able to try smaller portions of so many excellent dishes from a range of restaurants across Melbourne - for a more affordable price ($8 to $12 or
'Crowns') and in the one location under the glorious dome of the Royal Exhibition Building.
Add to that dozens upon dozens of fabulous food and wine stalls where you can try and buy top-quality food and wine. Some of the state's best producers attend Taste so both the range of products and the excitement factor is huge.
There are plenty of designated food experiences to be had too, like the
Australian Gourmet Traveller Taste Kitchen, where award-winning chefs strut their culinary stuff, the Taste
Wine Theatre by Gourmet Traveller WINE, and more.
I can think of no better way to celebrate spring: sunshine, flowers, music, friends, fine food and wine, exotic cocktails, boutique beers, and prolific purveyors of perfect produce - all under one roof. Bring it on.
