Anything for an excuse to click on a link to
'The Village Bike' eh? Well in this case the link won't take you to a pictorial essay of old bikes in charming English villages – as you might have hoped it would – but to information regarding a play, upcoming at the Royal Court.
The hero of this story is Becky, who's married, pregnant and let's say more than a little frustrated. Her husband isn't particularly interested in her new underwear, in fact he seems to be more interested in boning up on baby manuals, so she turns first to her stash of porn under the bed and then to a a brief encounter. And from there things start to get streamier.
The humour of this tale is dark, but it sounds hilarious – being 'with child' doesn't normally bring out a lady's wildest side, but it's definitely a comic set of circumstances to investigate. Penelope Skinner is the investigator, and playwright, in this case, an alumni of
The Royal Court's Young Writer's Programme. Her words are being directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins who's done a lot of work for the Royal Court.
Try out The Village Bike at the Jerwood Theatre, downstairs, running from the 24thof June until the 23rd of July.
